Digital nomads are offered increased opportunities to follow their interests. Argentina has joined the ranks of digital nomad-friendly countries and announced a short-term residence permit program set to come into effect on 20 May.
Brief description of the program
The Argentinian government has introduced a short-term residence permit allowing foreign nationals employed outside of Argentina to live and work remotely from the country for up to six months. Upon the expiry of this validity term, the permit can be extended for another six months, without local sponsorship.
Required documents and application
The permit will only be available to those who do not generally require a visa to enter Argentina as tourists, however eligible foreign nationals are not allowed to seek local employment and sponsor dependant family members.
Applicants must submit supporting documentation of their employment abroad, such as a work contract, employment certification, evidence of income, fee receipts, etc. The essential paperwork also includes a CV stating education, qualification, and experience.
All documents must be apostilled or legalized and translated into Spanish.
To renew the permit, applicants must remain compliant with the eligibility criteria, have no criminal record in Argentina, and meet the minimum stay requirement, which is half of the validity period of their initial permit.
