Around 3,000 invitations were issued to the eligible candidates nationwide.
The Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) is a set of immigration programs jointly operated by the Canadian federal government and provincial authorities. The program offers immigration pathways to interested candidates and enables provinces and territories to create immigration streams tailored to their labour market needs.
The Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) was launched in 1998, aiming to evenly distribute the benefits of economic immigration across all provinces and territories. At present, PNPs make up a substantial share of economic immigration to most provinces and territories. In fact, most small provinces rely on the program to fulfill their demographic and human resources needs. By 2024, the government is set to increase the PNP admission to 93,000 immigrants.
Express Entry Linked PNP Streams
Most provinces and territories have at least one PNP stream aligned with the federal Express Entry system, which consolidates Canada’s three major categories of federal economic immigration programs: Canadian Experience Class (CEC), Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), and Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP). Express Entry-linked PNPs, also called “enhanced PNPs” allow provinces to select candidates and invite them to apply. The number of invitations sent to PNP applicants by IRCC over the last two months was the highest ever.
Last week, Canadian Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Sean Fraser announced resuming Express Entry draws for Federal Skilled Worker (FSW) and Canadian Experience Class (CEC) programs in early July.
Alberta
In April, the results of the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) draw were released. The April 14 draw saw 250 individuals invited to apply through the Alberta Express Entry stream.
British Columbia
The British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) conducts draws on a weekly basis inviting the best candidates to apply for a provincial nomination through the Express Entry British Columbia, Skills Immigration, and Tech streams. In April, more than 665 eligible candidates received invitations.
Manitoba
Manitoba regularly issues invitations under three streams: Skilled Workers in Manitoba, Skilled Workers Overseas, and International Education Stream. Last month, the province conducted two general draws: on 7 and 22 April. A total of 526 Letters of Advice to Apply were issued, of which 76 were sent to candidates with a valid Express Entry profile.
In an effort to assist Ukrainian nationals affected by the war, Manitoba is holding regular draws for the individuals from Ukraine who meet the MPNP eligibility criteria. The latest draw took place on 13 April issuing 20 invitations.
Ontario
In April 2022, the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) issued a total of 1335 invitations and two draws were held.
The first draw was conducted on 26 April, and the province invited 1034 candidates under the Express Entry Skilled Trades stream.
On 28 April, the second draw was held through the Express Entry-linked French Speaking Skilled Worker stream (FSSW), and Notifications of Interest were issued to 301 candidates.
Prince Edward Island
PEI PNP draws are held once a month and the schedule is approved and communicated in advance. The latest draw was conducted on 21 April, and 152 individuals were invited to apply for Canadian permanent residency.
Quebec
The Province of Quebec assesses applicants using its own rules. Quebec has its own immigration programs separate from other Canadian immigration programs.
The latest Quebec Regular Skilled Worker Program draw was held on 7 April, and 33 candidates were invited to apply for a permanent selection under the Quebec Regular Skilled Worker program (QSWP). To be eligible, candidates must have profiles in the Arrima Expression of Interest system and have a validated job offer from an employer outside the Montreal metropolitan area.
