Required investment amount: from €500,000.
Qualifying investment options include:
- Investing €2 million or more in government bonds;
- Investing €1 million or more in bank deposits;
- Acquiring real estate valued at €500,000 or more; or
- Investing €1 million or more in a new business, creating jobs, which is of interest to the government.
Status: The first step is to get a one-year residence visa. The second step is to apply for a two-year residence permit, which can be renewed every two years, provided your investment is being maintained and all other requirements are being met. If you spend at least 6 months in Spain every year, in 5 years’ time you can apply for a 5-year residence permit. After 10 years, you become eligible for naturalization. The citizenship test checks constitutional and sociocultural knowledge and is administered by the Cervantes Institute. Spain allows dual citizenship for nationals who have acquired Spanish nationality by origin. Naturalized citizens may not retain their previous passports.

Benefits for residence permit holders: Visa-free mobility within the Schengen area (up to 90 days during 180 days), residency permits for family members, the freedom to live, work and study anywhere in Spain.
Benefits for passport holders: All rights conferred on a citizen of Spain, including the freedom to live, work, and study anywhere in the EU, and visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 186 countries and territories, including the USA.
Time allowed outside the country: Unlimited. The minimum stay required is only one day per year. The program does not require residency in the country.
